Arab Social Democratic Forum founded in Cairo

On 20th January 2013, a milestone for global socialism was marked with the foundation of the Arab Social Democratic Forum. On the initiative of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, the Ettakatol Party (Tunisia) and the Fatah movement (Palestine), representatives of 19 social democratic parties from the Middle East and North Africa came together in Cairo, Egypt, to identify common challenges and create a unified progressive movement in the region.

In parallel, youth representatives of the parties met to plan the establishment of an Arab social democratic youth structure. ECOSY Secretary General Thomas Maes was present at the meeting and pledged technical and organisational support to the new structure: ECOSY is proud to welcome the comrades from the region to the family.
