E se este fosse a tua casa? #RefugeesWelcome

JS Portugal launched yesterday, May 4th, another Action Day, this time under the motto “Refugees Welcome”. The Action Day takes place in more than 100 schools, universities and public spaces around the country, and aims to raise awareness among young people to the plight of refugees.

JS joins forces with YES – Young European Socialists, advocating for a set of policies to welcome and support refugees and improve safety conditions, as well as a common asylum policy. “The situation of refugees is a highly important issue in the European context. This is a cause that deserves from all of us an increased effort due to its deep social, political and civilizational impact’ claims João Torres, Secretary General of JS Portugal.

Under this initiative, the young MPs of JS and PS, João Torres, Diogo Leão and Ivan Gonçalves, will be present in an awareness action in Lisbon.

We have seen a huge increase in solidarity coming from young people from all across Europe, particularly in regions where the economic situation is very difficult and unemployment is high. We want to inform, motivate and engage young Portuguese people in this cause until we can match the same solidarity from the European leaders” says João Torres.

The targets of the Action Day “Refugees Welcome” were schools of basic and secondary education, as well as higher education institutions, with over 100 initiatives all through Wednesday.
