Stop the abortion ban: solidarity with Polish women!

Today, Friday 23rd of March, the Polish Parliament is discussing a resolution that if it is approved will result in an even more restrictive abortion policy.

A bill proposing that terminations should be illegal in cases where the fetus is severely impaired was put forward by the Bishop’s conference and on Monday the Head of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights signalled that an approval could be possible, completely ignoring NGO’s and other groups who were speaking out against the bill.

Right now Poland has one of the most restrictive abortion laws in Europe, as a termination is only allowed if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest, if the woman’s life is in danger or in cases of severe or fatal foetal impairment.

On top of that contraception and the day after pill are not easily accessible for most women. Step by step Polish conservative forces are taking away women’s right of self determination. We no longer accept that a group of men will decide about women’s bodily autonomy. We are not incubators, we have a right to chose what happens with our bodies.

This is not a Polish problem, we see the restriction of women’s reproductive rights all over the world whether if it is the doctor in Germany that has to pay a fine because she informed potential patients that she is doing terminations or the women in El Salvador who have to go to jail because of a miscarriage. Stigmatization and criminalisation of women and doctors has to stop.

We call upon solidarity worldwide. Share your statements or pictures of solidarity using the hashtags #solidaritywithpolishwomen #czarnypiątek #stoptheban
